Fort DeSoto Park is a 900-acre preserve 10 miles from downtown St. Peteresburg with 7 miles of pristine beach.
The best feature of Fort DeSoto Park is the absence of development. It has the same charm that it did decades ago. Recent additions include a canoe trail and a 4 mile paved trail for cyclists and skaters.
There's an 1898-era fort on the preserve that is fun to explore.
